Abstract
Officially launched in 2013 by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), also known as the New Silk Road, stands as one of the most ambitious geopolitical and economic undertakings of the contemporary era. It aims to establish an extensive network of infrastructural, economic, and cultural linkages between China and a significant number of countries, spanning two grand axes: a terrestrial “Economic Belt” stretching across Eurasia, and a “Maritime Road” connecting China to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Through this initiative, China seeks not only to foster global economic growth but also to strengthen its position as a central power in an increasingly interconnected international system.
